A family member requested a Brother Blood mask for an upcoming convention. As he is a high school student still, he does not have a huge budget. The goal was to be economical yet still look close to the mask on the TV show. The end result was approximately $40.00 and a pretty decent mask.
The mask started as a very cheap paintball skull style mask. The mouth area was widened with a dremel tool, hot glue bumps built up at the bottom for the bone look and nose shaped and built with a piece of aluminum can.
Once the foundation was made, I bought some vinyl material that looked like leather to cover the mask and make the back and neck wrap. Used mostly super glue as an adhesive. Discovered the vinyl really does not stick too well to it, but holds well enough for cosplay purposes or until I find something better. Since it won’t be worn too much, it should survive for DragonCon. Repair kit is always in tow, so nothing to worry about really. The pattern the pieces were laid were based on the mask used in the show.
The final result was this mask. The jaw bones are resin cast from an African leopard taxidermy jaw. So no cats were hurt in the production of this mask. The color was done with about 4 different acrylic paints used separately and mixed. Some wash and scrubs were used to give a weathered look. Overall, I think it looks as good if not better in color and weathering than the show version.
