Having been heavily involved in the construction of the wookiee, there felt a need for a backup plan in case the suit was not ready for Star Wars Celebration. Â This was my self-impossed deadline, and maybe not the best for a first time wookiee builder, but I was/am determined. Â In the meantime, I contracted Tusken Outfitters (can be found on Facebook) to build me a Tusken outfit. Â I have to admit, they did a great job! Â About 3 months later I received the following items:
The mask, robe, sash, boots and arm wraps were all weathered and looked great. Â I added 3 bandos that were the models required for level 2 certification. Â In order to meet approval however, the bandos had to be weathered also. Â A few hours with 80 grit sandpaper and acrylic paint can do wonders. Â A faster way may be to drag it behind a car for a little while, but I would hate to loose one at the cost they go for. Â For 501st approval, you do not need a weapon, but for Rebel Legion you do. Â I used a weapon tutorial from Kryat Clan forums for a Gaffi Stick construction with all parts coming from Lowes. Â The process worked great and I am happy it did not take as long as I thought it would. Â After building, sand, paint and weather. Â There are a few ways to do this, so will leave it for personal preference.
If looking for an outfit you can use for charity events with Star Wars groups, I highly recommend the Tusken and Jawa since they can be approved for 501st and Rebel Legion. Â Gives you the most bang for the buck so to speak. Â There may be a few others eligible for dual membership, I am just not aware of them at this time.
