Yes, it’s name is Dalek Balor and it is a Special Weapons Dalek from the show Doctor Who. The special weapons dalek or SWD was only in action for one episode, but did have a cameo is one of Matt Smith’s episodes under the new series. It’s spotlight lasted all of about two minutes, but it was a memorable one as this dalek has the ability to destroy multiple regular daleks in a single blast. How about that for fire power? And you worry about the dalek saying “exterminate!” on the new series now? BAH!
Without going into details, here are some of the images from Balor’s creation. My thanks to one of my best friends Dave Duca for spending countless hours on the construction. I hope to one day understand and be able to fiberglass half as well as Dave can.
I have more images of the build I will add as I find them. Oddly, they are not in my folder with the early photos. As you can see the Dalek is easy to hop in and out of compared to most. The front slides open and the top lifts up. I like to think of it as the convertible model. I hope to have another Dalek in the future built for my wife, but it will be more of the classic design most are used to seeing. As of right now, Balor is the only SWD in North America and only 3 are known to exist in the world.
Finally done with all the painting, etc. Camera does not do it justice. I honestly really like the pain job. It looks more dirty that the camera is showing.
